Marc Jacobs patent peep toe star pumps

Marc JacobsLooks like the Shoewawa staff have gone a little Marc Jacobs crazy today! I mentioned these shoes in passing last week, when I was showing you the closed-toe versions, but since then I've seen them on a few different websites, and I thought they deserved a post all of they're own. Even although I've never really bought into the whole "star" craze that's gone on this year, I have to admit that these are stunning shoes, and the little diamante star is the perfect finishing touch to them. The uppers are described as "pearl", and are a lovely, soft metallic shade. I think they'd be better without the metal on the heel, but I'd live with that too if I had to. These are $530 and you'll find them at Neiman Marcus.

Miu Miu multicolour suede pumps

Miu Miu multicolour suede pumpsIf you like a bit of colour on your feet but don't want to get all Balenciaga about it, these pumps by Miu Miu will provide the cheerfulness you're after while the muted green suede ensured the overall look of the shoes stay subtly stylish. I particularly like the narrow yellow strip of the underside, which is only revealed fully when the shoes are viewed from behind. They'd work well as a day-to-night pair of shoes and could easily be dressed up or down.

Rag & Bone to branch out into footwear

Rag & Bone to branch out into footwearRag & Bone have joined the many designers taking the step forward to expand their repertoire by adding a footwear line.

The New York label will unveil three styles this spring - a tailored loafer, a slipper-like oxford, and brogue detailed ballet flats. Prices aren't exactly cheap, ranging from $330 to US$515, but they insist that they are good value.

"We focused on classic silhouettes and used all-natural materials and custom lasts and made sure all the shoes are flexible and breathable," said Tull Price, who is collaborating on the line.

Why Women Own 15 Pairs of Black Shoes

Why Women Own 15 Pairs of Black ShoesIt’s no secret that shoes make women feel pretty. The right shoes make us feel so gorgeous inside that we’re willing to overlook a pinched pinky toe or have our ankles rubbed the wrong way. Like a snowflake, each shoe in our coveted closet is a unique expression of our self. Each pair communicates our different aspects. When a woman owns fifteen pairs of black shoes, she is simply communicating herself fifteen different ways.

What men forget is that women have to feel good about ourselves first for us to want to give anything to a man. Sex included. Our fifteen pairs of black shoes that make us feel good fifteen different ways, is in fact doing the heavy lifting for men. Instead of cursing them, men should thank our shoes. Our shoes compliment us when men forget to. They make us feel beautiful when men are too busy to notice our new haircut or outfit. In the feel good department of life, our shoes pick up the slack where men drop the ball. If men want more room in the closet, they might want to start complimenting us more so our fifteen pairs of black shoes don’t have to.

10 Reasons Why Shoes Are Better Than Men

1. They come in pairs
2. We pick their size
3. They prefer to be fixed
4. They always compliment us
5. They wait right where we left them
6. They’re returnable
7. They don’t mind being cleaned up
8. They like it when we “step on them”
9. They always know how to make us feel better
10. They don’t get jealous if we’ve had multiple shoe experiences

Prada anthracite metallic leather ruffled detail ankle boots

Prada anthracite metallic leather ruffled detail ankle bootsI haven't loved everything Prada have done recently, but I do love these boots, and I think they make up for some of the stranger designs we've been seeing from the brand in the past year or so. The basic shape is one you really can't go wrong with - well, everyone can use a pair of black stiletto ankle boots, can't they? - but the ruffle detail adds a really nice little touch. It's pretty and unusual, but it's not too over-the-top, so you'll still be able to wear these everywhere you'd wear a plain pair of boots, but with the knowledge that they're far prettier!

These are $712 at Bluefly, and have gone right onto my wish list!

Michelle Obama: Future First Lady of Fashion

Michelle Obama: Future First Lady of FashionMichelle Obama is doing her part to challenge the political fashion status quo, and consumers are thrilled. After her appearance on The View in a White House/ Black Market dress that retails for $148, designer Donna Ricco found long-sought fame, when the dress sold out in boutiques across the nation.

Unlike the bland, safe ensembles of many political wives, Mrs. Obama’s campaign fashion choices indicated that she isn’t afraid to express her own style. Her vibrant sundresses have garnered praise and criticism, yet they certainly meet designers’ call for jewel tones. Some fashion critics have gone so far as to argue that Michelle Obama represents post-feminist fashion. As Danielle Crittenden writes for the National Post.

“It was refreshing, too, to see a woman on the convention’s stage dressed in a soft, sexy dress. This is more post-feminism. Call it the Sex and the City effect. I’ve been struck by how many young career women today eschew the boxy suits and sensible heels of their female bosses for fitted dresses, high heels and low necklines. There seems to be no doubt in their minds that they can be effective at what they do in their public lives, but still be feminine and unabashedly open about attracting male attention.”

Michelle Obama’s style is clean, energetic, and down-to-earth enough to be attainable by the average consumer. To step into Michelle’s shoes, look for Mom-on-the-Go sensible flats with asymmetrical lines and kitten heels in jewel tones. The Fabiana by Bronx, shown at right, would be a great way to flatter Ms. Obama through imitation.

The History of Lacoste Shoes

Lacoste ShoesLacoste shoes are every bit as stylish as the rest of the fresh, sporty looks and fabulous perfumes they're famous for. And, they are becoming just as sought-after.

The Lacoste brand has close connections with tennis. It was company founder, René Lacoste, who won the Davis Cup for France for the first time in 1927. His name is still as well known in the world of tennis as it is in the world of fashion.

Rene, who was born in France in 1904, was nicknamed "the alligator" by the press. He made a bet with the Captain of the French Davis Cup Team over an alligator suitcase. The nickname stuck and was quickly turned into an alligator logo, which Lacoste had embroidered onto his blazer.

That logo is still around today. It can be found embroidered on items from the Lacoste clothing range as well as on selected pairs of Lacoste shoes. It is believed that Rene Lacoste's embroidered blazer was the first instance of a logo being worn on the exterior of an item of clothing. Until then, logos had only ever been sewn on labels, where they couldn't be seen. So when you wear your Lacoste shoes, complete with embroidered alligator, you're not simply following fashion--you're following in a tradition started all those years ago by Rene Lacoste himself.

Early items from the Lacoste line were heavily inspired by the tennis courts. Although the clothing has moved into the mainstream, it retains that sporty, casual feel.

Vans Custom

Vans CustomVans first came “off the wall” in March of 1966. The first Vans shoes didn’t even have names - they had numbers! The Vans number 44 was their first authentic deck shoe. Vans were the pioneers in the mass production of custom shoes. This is the reason I thought they should be the first review! It all started when one of their customers came into their factory, office and store and said “that’s a nice pink, but I really want a brighter pink.” All it took was that comment from a customer and custom vans were born!

Custom isn’t the most affordable route - be prepared to pay extra for your customizing your shoes. The cool thing is, no one else will have a pair like them - unless you make some killer custom shoes like my friend Lee! Enjoy the shoes of the day: Lee’s custom Vans.
